More Than a National Day of Prayer

Last night, on the first Thursday in May, the Body of Christ came together to pray for our nation. We do this every year, knowing that God has called us to seek him and to pray. I have gone on and off in years past, but this year Madison UMC was blessed to host the prayer meeting for our area. I can't describe the feeling of looking at the faces representing multiple local churches. People who willingly came out to a church they are unfamiliar with for the sole purpose of praying for others. This is the Body of Christ at work. I can't help but think, what if we did this more often? What if we chose to put aside our own ambitions 1 night a quarter or 1 night a month for the greater good of our communities, school, families, military and government? Wouldn't God honor that? Isn't that what the Body of Christ looks like as it fulfills the call God has placed on us?

This is what I saw as we came together, power in the name of Jesus to bring change! Power because the body joined together. We have the ability to move mountains and it isn't always in loud voices of disagreement or grumbling because of what we are seeing around us, but rather in humbly seeking the Lord. Doesn't scripture say "If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.?

We are the people who are called by His name. Can you hear Him calling you? Yes, you and me. There is no better time than right now, after all you were born for this! God saw fit to place you right where you are and for such a time as this. As His people, let's rise up and take our places in the army of God. Let's battle those things in prayer that we cannot change and watch what God will do!

Will you join me? Start a prayer meeting in your home, in your church and with other churches. Expect great things!
