There is so much going on in the world around us right now. Most of what we are seeing is right here in our back yard. Who would have thought that we would be witnessing firsthand the civil unrest, rioting and division that we have witnessed in other countries. It is frightening to say the least!
It is interesting to me how much of what we see in our world today relates to the place the Israelites would occasionally find themselves. We are separated from God; it is not something that happened today or yesterday or last week at the capital. No, it isn’t something that just happened over this past year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is something that has been creeping into every crevice of society. It has weaved itself in slowly, methodically day after day, year after year. Satan has one plan, and that plan is to steal, kill and DESTROY. That is exactly what he is doing.
God has been removed from schools, teachings, homes and even some churches. We have created a feel-good society, putting our feelings, wants and desires before anything else. This brings about a moral demise. After all our morals are directly built on the Word of God. That is where all our laws of morals and ethics come from. Now take that away. It isn’t spoken of, taught or even looked on in a positive light.
Isaiah 59 speaks of being separated from God. It says “The Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy that He cannot hear, but your iniquities have separated you from your God. And your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”
What then can we do if our sins as a nation have separated us from God? What hope do we have?
We have God, we have Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. We cannot be discouraged, rather we must recognize how much the world needs what we have. This country needs the peace that comes from God alone. We have that and we must not bow to fear. We need to some extent separate ourselves from social media, the news, maybe even the coworker that feeds the fear that is trying to overtake us.
As Christians we must not give up hope. We have the Word of God, we can find within it encouragement and hope for ourselves and all those around us.
2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
I stand on this promise, as the Church we need to get busy praying for this nation to get back to its roots. We need to know the One that our hope is in so that we can pass this hope on to others around us.
God is not done yet. He was always there for the Israelites when they were ready to turn from their wicked ways and He is here for us as well. As a matter of fact, we are in a position for revival and a great harvest of souls. Let’s be ready, individually and as a church body, to do our part in praying and serving the Lord.
I will leave you with this bit of encouragement from Psalm 27: 13-14,
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait I say on the Lord!”
